On June 9th 2012 FISP held its’ 3rd Annual Tri-County Triangle of Care Suicide Prevention Conference and year’s event was a great success. Through FISP’s partnership with Nova Southeastern University and their expert professors along with experts from many other institutions and organization the conference provided excellent seminars for the entire day. It offered suicide prevention educational opportunities for professionals, students, and the general public in the South Florida Tri-County area and covered all aspects of suicide prevention for all populations that are effected by suicide or may be subject to suicidal ideations. Participating from Nova Southeastern University were Dr. Ralph “Gene”Cash, Dr. Douglas Flemons, Dr. Scott Poland and Dr. Cecilia F. Rokusek. Additional presenters included Dr. Maria Amparo Umbert from the Veteran’s Administration, Dr. Leonard M. Gralnik, Adolescent & Pediatric Psychiatrist, and Jackie Rosen, Executive Director/CEO of FISP, Carole Benowitz, PFLAG Florida State Coordinator and Howard Cohen, Registered Mental Health Counseling Intern. Through this partnership with Nova Southeastern University and the South Florida Council of Advanced Nurse Practice, (SFCAPN, Inc.) FISP was able to offer continuing educational credits to mental health professionals, Osteopathic Physicians, and nurses for attendance at this conference. To wrap up this exciting and informative day a panel discussion called “Suicide from all Perspectives” was monitored by Harry Rosen, FISP President, and included Dr. Leonard M. Gralnik, Stephen Ferrante, MSW, Florida Atlantic University School of Social Work Aging Academy and Marcia Pinck, Mental Health Association of South Florida. The Nova University student group called NSPIRE lead by their President Toni Richardi volunteered to help with many aspects of the conference including collecting items and running the successful silent auction to make a donation to FISP. A special thanks to Dr. Frederick Lippman, Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost Nova Southeastern University Health Professional Division, Dr. Robert Oller, Chief Executive Officer of Health Care Systems Nova Southeastern University, Toni Richardi, President of NSPIRE and all our presenters and partners who helped FISP make this event such a success. FISP is looking forward to the 4th FISP Annual Tri-County Triangle of Care Suicide Prevention Conference in 2013 on Saturday April 27th at Nova Southeastern University in the Terry Health Professions Division Building.
